What does your pet need
after adoption?

Whether you adopted from a shelter or a private person, these are the essential steps.

🔬

Full vet check-up

Head-to-tail physical exam to detect any hidden issues. Many adopted animals come with undiagnosed parasites, dental or skin problems.

📍

Microchip & registration

Mandatory by law. If the shelter didn't do it, we implant it and register in RIAC under your name.

💉

Vaccines

We check the health card (if there is one) and give any missing vaccines. If there's no prior history, we start from scratch with the full schedule.

🐛

Deworming

Many adopted animals have internal or external parasites. We do full deworming adapted to their age and weight.

🍽️

Proper nutrition

We advise on the best diet for their breed, age and health. We stock premium food in our shop.

📋

Health card & follow-up

We open a full health card and plan the vaccine and check-up schedule. We remind you of every appointment via WhatsApp.

"Adopted a dog from a shelter that had nothing: no microchip, no vaccines, no health card. At Interzoo Viriato they handled everything in one visit. Now he's healthy, vaccinated and happy."

❓ FAQ

Adoption & vet FAQ

Ideally as soon as possible after adoption, within the first 2-3 days. Even if the shelter did a check-up, it's important your own vet assesses the animal from scratch.

Usually an adoption contract and, ideally, a health card with vaccines and microchip. But often documentation is missing or incomplete. Don't worry — we review and complete everything.

Yes. You need to transfer the microchip ownership to your name in RIAC. Otherwise the animal remains registered under the shelter and they'd be contacted if lost, not you.

Depends on what's needed (vaccines, microchip, deworming). Ask us on WhatsApp with the animal's info and we'll give you a quote before you come.

Of course. Adopted cats need the same: check-up, microchip (now mandatory), vaccines and deworming. We specialise in cats.

Yes. We stock everything your new pet needs: food, bowls, bed, carrier, lead, harness, toys, cat litter... and we advise on what to choose for their case.
